The Jetty Project

19th August 2018 A pleasant stop, not much remarkable about the jetty - other than that there is a shelter at the end of the jetty, where there were a few men fishing. Otherwise it was pretty empty, as most of the jetties seem to be at this time of year. This was our last stop of the day. We drove along to Semaphore but didn't stop, so that will wait for next time.

19th August 2018 This was a bust. Henley Beach is always crowded, so we had to park some distance away and walk to the Square. When we got there we discovered the jetty is under repair. The sign says it is re-opening in September, so we'll come back then and walk to the end.

19th August 2018 The next three posts relate to a Sunday out in Adelaide. A rather cold, windy but fine day. The first stop was Adelaide Shores, between Holdfast Bay and West Beach. Again, I'm not sure I'd consider this a jetty but it appears on our list as 'Adelaide Shores pontoonsand timber wharf'. So we made the stop and took the photos:

29th July 2018 The largest jetty in Ardrossan is owned by BHP and not publicly accessible. We took a photo for completeness. Then we went on to the town jetty, at the bottom of the ramp. The only people were a father and son.

29th July 2018 Pine Point barely qualifies as a jetty - it looks more like a small landing or a carpark. But it is on the list of public jetties we are using, so we stopped. We could easily have driven onto it, but stopped and ran through the rain to take our photos before running back to the car.

29th July 2018 The Port Julia jetty is quite pleasant, as it is only a picturesque bay. There is a large shelter at the base of the jetty, but the cold and rain did diminish our enjoyment and so we didn't stay long.

29th July 2018 There is a small jetty only a couple of hundred metres south of the main jetty. You might miss it if you weren't looking for it.

29th July 2018 The Sunday was a blustery day, raining intermittently. The main jetty in Edithburgh is wide, with several shelters from the weather - we did not take advantage of them although it started to rain as we walked. The water was particularly clear, like air.

29th July 2018 Port Giles is just a large set of silos and a long jetty. At first we thought we couldn't get to the jetty as the whole complex looked locked. But there was a pedestrian gate that was only closed - we could push it open and then walk down the road to the jetty. It is only possible to walk part-way along the jetty before it is blocked by a gate. Walking back, near the base of the jetty, we noticed a colony of seals on the rocks. There were a few seals in the water. They were beyond a fence where they can't be disturbed.

29th July 2018 On the Sunday of our weekend away in Stansbury, we had breakfast in a local cafe and checked out of the motel, then went down to the Stansbury Jetty.

28th July 2018 After visiting Klein Point there was still time in the day, so we drove on to Wool Bay. The jetty is at the bottom of a small cliff, so you drive down near an old limestone kiln. It was very calm and the sun was about to set.

Mt first few posts will be retrospective. Lynn and I started this project about a month ago, so I'll have to catch up. Our first jetty was Klein Point. We were staying at Stansbury and went out late on Saturday 28th July 2018. Klein Point is not far south of Stansbury but it's at a limestone mine; you drive through the gates to the small public carpark and then walk around the edge of the fence. The jetty has two arms. It's very industrial but the air was cold and crisp and it was very calm. As it was the end of the day the light had softened.
